Kraken Workers Network
You're hard at work building the future of green energy, we're hard at work protecting your rights into the future.
The Kraken Workers Network is an independent, global advocacy group organized by workers for workers at Kraken Tech. We are an alliance of employees working together to improve conditions across the company.
Our Campaign Priorities
The issues below are what our network has identified as the most pressing at Kraken today. As an alliance of workers, these are the core policy changes and protections we are actively advocating for.
Kraken does not publish salary bands or a documented pay structure. Compensation is negotiated on an individual basis, with no visibility into how decisions are made or how one employee's pay compares to another's. This creates conditions where outcomes depend more on an individual's willingness to negotiate than on a consistent, fair standard.
Published, documented salary bands with a transparent methodology behind them. Public visibility of that reporting where legally required.
Protections around on-call and overtime pay are inconsistent across the business.
Consistent, company-wide on-call and overtime compensation policy, not dependent on which team an employee sits in. Full disclosure of applicable payment schedules and rates at the time any on-call agreement is presented for signature.
Employees currently have no formal input into decisions about how generative AI tools are selected, deployed, or integrated into their workflows, nor visibility into what data or customer information those tools are permitted to process. Across the wider technology sector, workforce reductions have in some cases been publicly attributed to “AI transformation” in circumstances where the underlying driver was a decision to discontinue funding a function, rather than genuine automation of the work performed. Kraken employees have no assurance that similar framing would not be applied here.
Meaningful consultation with employees before generative AI tools are introduced into workplace systems or processes. A clear, published policy governing what data these tools may access, particularly where customer or commercially sensitive information is involved. Where any restructuring is attributed to AI adoption, a transparent basis for that claim that can be reasonably scrutinised by affected staff.
Kraken does not operate a dedicated HR function; this is understood to be a deliberate organisational decision. A People team exists but does not hold the authority to independently investigate or resolve workplace conduct matters.
A harassment and misconduct reporting process that operates independently of an employee's direct management line, with genuine authority to investigate and act. Recognition, consistent with established work health and safety principles, that harassment and bullying affect witnesses and team culture, not only the individual directly targeted. Clear protection against retaliation for employees who make use of the process.
In the absence of a formal HR function, career progression and role security are determined almost entirely through an employee's individual relationship with their manager. There is no documented framework describing what is required to advance to a given level or role, and no consistency in how progression is assessed across different teams or managers.
A documented set of role levels and progression criteria, applied consistently across the organisation. A clear and transparent link between progression criteria and the pay bands requested above, so that career growth at Kraken is governed by a defined standard rather than by the discretion of an individual manager.

Details on our technology choices, server governance, and network structure.
To be completely clear: the Kraken Workers Network is not a union. We are a conglomeration of organizing people who currently work at Kraken Tech. While our network has a strong union facet and works in close coordination with established industry unions, we are an autonomous grassroots collective dedicated to worker solidarity, mutual aid, and workplace democracy.
All verified members (current staff) have full access to general community channels to talk, share experiences, and support one another.
As part of our work, we will also be checking in with our associated unions to ensure that members are still paying members of their relevant local industry union to keep their specific channel membership. If someone is no longer an active paying member, they are downgraded to a generic Fluxer role, allowing them to continue talking to other members in general community spaces without being part of union-specific organizing conversations.
We chose Fluxer because it is a free and open-source software (FOSS) platform that we host completely on our own infrastructure:
- Fully Open Source & Auditable: Because Fluxer is completely open source, anyone can inspect the code to verify its security and privacy. There are no black-box proprietary algorithms or hidden analytics.
- Resilient Against Corporate Takedowns: Commercial platforms (like Slack or Discord) can arbitrarily suspend communities or take down channels when facing corporate legal threats or malicious vendor reporting. Hosting our own sovereign instance ensures we cannot be deplatformed or silenced from the outside.
- Data Sovereignty: Having a sovereign, self-hosted service ensures that your data, metadata, and our community conversations never go anywhere outside of our own direct control.
It is completely natural to be cautious. Here is why you can be confident this space is genuine:
- Organising is a Legally Protected Activity: Under employment and labor laws in many countries where Kraken operates, organizing and discussing working conditions is a protected statutory right. Setting up an employer honeypot to surveil or entrap workers engaging in union activities is unlawful and carries severe legal penalties.
- Direct Workplace Contacts: You will soon be able to connect with verified organizing members and union reps directly at work, who will be able to answer your questions and guide you here with the backing of relevant trade unions.
- Official Trade Union Verification: Our work is coordinated alongside established national trade unions (such as Prospect and UTAW). You can independently reach out to these unions through their official public websites and hotlines to confirm that this network is legitimate.
- External Verification & Peer Vouching: You can verify your standing using external trade union credentials or by having an existing coworker in the chat vouch for you, entirely independent of corporate channels.
